Ground Zero

Mar 28 2003:
==========
Trembling!!!

The city that never sleeps. before I left, I remember the song by Frank Sinatra, NewYork!NewYork!. In that he sings that he is going to the big city and he will witness those wagabond shoes, the cars, the streetside Steak houses and pomp and valor of the city.

Friends dropped me at the airport and I was suddenly all by myself. Strange air filled the room, it was the first time I am out of the country though and all were ofcourse new. It was a smooth flight from Dallas to Pittsburgh. Transit flight, u know, that was the only available cheap deal for that time, at cheaptickets. Pittsburgh had a timeshift from the central time that I didnt know. So missed my flight to newyork and luckily got another one and arrived at NY ariport. It is funny now, once a threat to my existence.

Received by blue, vin-blue, went to his low lit apartment. It reminded me of the apt in Matrix. The low lit, gree color and a old look spooky apt. Our first visit was to the statue of liberty. Then to the times square. When I saw the big, colorful neon lit hoardings and the most popular one NASDAQ, it was as if all the people walking around there had just that day and next day was going doom. Then we went to the 'Ground Zero' Where the 117 floor, 417 metre building once stood with its chest up. I looked as if it was a couple of playgrounds together. It was a horror feeling to know that my foot was standing on the floor where thousands of people were crushed along with the debris to the ground Zero.

There were thousands of photographs around. Lots of people were explaining their witness of the event that occurred infront of their very own eyes. There were lots of candles lit infront. Lots of people still bursting out at the site. The photos that were put up there spoke more than the people around trying to explain the events.

It was a thoughtful night. Is killing the helpless a revenge? The return to the apt was a somber. But still we tried to njoy the cold night there. As the time faded out into the darkness, people emptied the ground zero. It was just the cars zooming by the streets around that made a vrooom that echoed and could be heard all over manhattan, the periodicc sounds of the police sirens. And the open sky that was watching the ground zero crubmled at its foot.
